Minimum temp falls after fresh rains in J&K parts



Amid more rain in the last 24 hours, minimum temperatures recorded a decrease in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Also weatherman has forecast light to moderate rain at scattered places in J&K in next 24 hours. 


A meteorological department official here told GNS that in the last 24 hours till 0830 a.m. today, Jammu received rainfall of 49.2 mm followed by Katra (38.4mm), Batote (32.2mm), Kupwara (23.2 mm), Bhaderwah (16.1 mm), Kathua (10.8 mm), Banihal (2.6 mm), Pahalgam (0.4mm), Qazigund & Kokernag (0.2 mm)  while Srinagar had traces.  

Regarding minimum temperature, he said, there was decrease in mercury across J&K.

Srinagar, he said, recorded a low of 19.5°C against 22.4°C on the previous night. However, he said, the temperature was 1.2°C above normal during this time of the year for the summer capital.

Qazigund recorded a low of 19.2°C same as on the previous night. The temperature was 2.7°C above normal there, he told GNS.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 16.7°C against 17.1°C on the previous night and it was 3.7°C above normal for the south Kashmir resort.

Kokernag recorded a low of 17.5°C against 19.2°C on the previous night and it was 1.7°C above normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 12.0°C against 14.0°C on the previous night. It was 0.1°C below normal for the north Kashmir place.

Kupwara town saw a low of 16.6°C against 18.8°C on previous night and it was 0.7°C below normal for the place during this time of the season, the official told Global News Service.

Jammu recorded a low of 24.1°C same on the previous night. It was 1.0°C ‘below’ normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal recorded a low of 17.9°C, Batote 16.7°C, Katra 21.4°C, Bhadarwah 18.5°C and Kathua 21.8°C. (GNS)
