Says J&K only place providing free insurance cover upto Rs 5 lac to every citizen; Under PM Modi’s leadership J&K has 5 new medical colleges functional first time after independence, 2 AIIMS also established, UT seen as becoming power house in sports field
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Friday said that in e-governance category, Jammu and Kashmir stands at number one position among all the Union Territories, while it stands at number five, if compared with other states in the country.
LG Sinha, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) was speaking during the inauguration ceremony of Ujala Cygnus Kashmir Super Speciality hospital at Nowgam.
He said that the system of e-governance in the country started much earlier, however, in Jammu and Kashmir it was started on October 28, 2020 and despite that today J&K stands at number one position among all the UTs in the e-governance system.
“If it is compared with other states in the country, Jammu and Kashmir stands at number 5 position, and I can say that in coming years we will be at number one or two position among states as well,” he said.
He added that all the officers are working with dedication and around 2009 public services were brought online under the e-governance system in Jammu and Kashmir.
“After 67 years of independence, Jammu and Kashmir had just 3 medical colleges, however, today under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, J&K has 5 medical colleges functional, two more are going to be functional soon and two AIIMS have also been set up in the UT,” he said.
LG Sinha said that as far as he knows such facilities in the medical field are not available anywhere in the country having such a small population.
He added that Jammu and Kashmir is the only place which is providing free health insurance cover upto Rs 5 lac to every citizen, be it poor or rich.
Meanwhile, speaking during a function at Bakshi Stadium Srinagar, LG Sinha said that today sports stadium renovated and upgraded at a cost of Rs 50 crore has been dedicated to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir and besides football; the stadium has been built for other sports activities as well.
He said that over the past few years, sports activities have been gaining momentum in Jammu and Kashmir, and it has become a “Jan Abhiyan” as sports activities reach to every village.
LG Sinha said that despite Covid-19 pandemic last year, over 70 lac people participated in the sports activities across J&K and he hoped that this year the number will be higher.
“I am being informed that a sports policy has been framed for Jammu and Kashmir and this policy has been framed in consultation with all the stakeholders and international sportsmen to benefit the youth of UT,” he said.
LG Sinha said that this year J&K has created a new record in conducting sports activities and in far-flung areas people have been able to witness some major performances.
“The youth here have not only made Jammu and Kashmir proud but the entire country as well. Today Jammu and Kashmir is seen as becoming the power house in the sports field, but unfortunately some youth despite having so much infrastructure and facilities available have chosen a wrong path,” he said.
He also said that the government is doing a lot to give a boost to sports infrastructure and other developmental works across all districts; however, some people are saying that nothing is happening on ground here.
“I want to tell those people that replace the old spectacles and they will be able to see the change. If they continue to see through old spectacles, they will not see any change,” he added—(KNO)
