Anantnag residents demand widening of Janglatmandi-Donipawa road



Shamshipora-Hushanpora residents seek concrete protection bund on river Vishaw


The residents of several villages of Anantnag district are demanding the widening of vital Janglatmandi-Donipawa road while as Shamshipora residents have demanded concrete bund on bank of river Vishaw.

The residents of Janglatmandi, Donipawa and Shirpora area of Anantnag told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the all roads in the area have been already widened but this very vital patch of around 2 KMS have been left out.

They said that this road is connecting dozens of villages to district headquarters besides vital GMC Anantnag.

Nadeem Ahmad a resident of Donipawa village said that this vital road patch of just two kilometre aren't being widened due to people of dozens of villages are suffering.

“Due to narrowness of the road, sometimes patients get stuck in traffic jam on the road for hours,” he said.

Abbas Ahmad, another resident of the area said that due to narrowness of the vital road and huge rush of vehicles, there remains traffic jam on the road for hours together.

“School going children, elderly persons and patients are main who are suffering due to traffic jam on the road,” he said.

Locals said that they have brought this issue in notice of higher ups several times who assure that this road will be widened on priority but on ground no work is being done on ground, due to reasons known to them.

They requested higher ups especially DC Anantnag to look into the matter at an earliest so that road can be widened and people can heave a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile the residents of Shamshipora and Hushanpora villages in South Kashmir's Anantnag district have demanded concrete protection bund on river Vishaw for safety of locals.

The residents of the area said that the bank of river Vishaw has developed cracks at some spots and there is need of immediate construction of concrete protection bund for the safety of locals.

Shakeel Wani, a local resident said that bank of the river has developed cracks very early and it is getting eroded due to which there are chances that water of the river can enter into residential areas and can cause damage to them.

He added that recently when level of the water increased in the river due to incessant rains, there was gap of just 4 inches between water and crack and if water would have entered the crack whole area would have got affected.

Muhammad Amin, another local, said this issue was brought in notice of concerned authorities many a times, but to no avail.

Department is constructing simple bund, which doesn't last for even months and there is immediate need of concrete protection bund, he said.

Locals said that if protection bund won't be constructed at an earliest, it can prove fatal and can cause damage to around six villages.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and construct concrete protection bund immediately so that locals won't face any problems—(KNO)
