Amid prevailing inclement weather conditions in Kashmir, local communities from many parts of Srinagar city have been arranging “Tehr” – yellow-coloured rice – for distribution to seek divine intervention for improvement in the weather.
“We are going through a climatic disaster. As we are in the month of June, we are yet to witness summer. It is going to impact our agricultural crops and fruits, and to get rid of this situation, we have arranged the Sasras,” a local community head told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
He said the distribution is “for the sake of Allah” and to get relief from the ongoing wet weather conditions.
“We are local shopkeepers of the downtown and we made the contributions for arranging the Sasras and we are of the firm belief that Almighty Allah will ease our sufferings,” he said.
The organisers said the ongoing weather conditions have badly impacted agriculture, the fruit industry, craftsmen and businesses in the Kashmir Valley. They have expressed hope that with these charity acts, Almighty will mitigate their sufferings and they will witness good weather conditions.
The weather in the valley has been erratic over the past few months with regular intervals of rainfalls, gusty winds, and thunders with lightning.
Several Srinagar localities have already organised ‘Sasras’ with the belief that the weather will improve.
The organisers have also urged the people to offer Nawafil prayers and make charities. “We all should seek forgiveness of our sins from Allah to get rid of the prevailing weather conditions,” said a shopkeeper
