Three students and a teacher from Institute of Technology, University of Kashmir have invented a RF based ambulance detection alarm that will help in decreasing the number of accidents.
The invention focuses on the severe impact caused by traffic congestion on the emergency vehicle transportation system.
In places such as India where the road width and length prove to be impossible to create a separate lane for emergency vehicles, it is difficult for ambulances to navigate through the traffic.
A congestion control system is designed in order to solve these problems.
The group of students includes Er Manan Sajad Malik (2022 IOT Batch), Farhana Fayaz Batoo, Mueed Ahmad Chishti B-tech 7th semester students, IOT Zakura campus and Dr Mueed Hafiz, Assistant professor IOT Zakura campus.
Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Manan Malik said this system is designed in such a way that it can be activated when it receives a signal from an ambulance based on radio frequency (RF) transmission and uses a microcontroller to make announcements. “The same will be displayed on the LCD placed on the junction and will glow green light at a junction towards that particular route and red light towards other routes of that particular junction,” he added.
"This system will lessen accidents which often happen at the traffic light intersections because vehicles gather together to pave way for an emergency vehicle. As the result, this project is successful and implementing the wireless communication i.e. the radio frequency (RF) transmission in the traffic light control system for emergency vehicles like ambulance,”
he said.
Malik said they propose a system for detecting the ambulances to pass through junctions by making an announcement before it reaches that particular junction.
He claimed that the system will be Radio Frequency module based which will have the receiver placed at junction points attached with a loud speaker, LCD and green and red signal lights. A transmitter will be placed at 1 km distance from that particular junction, he added
"The Transmitter will be further connected with the RF Reader which will detect the Chip placed on the ambulance. Whenever an ambulance comes in the 1km range of the junction, the FR Reader will detect the chip and will send wireless signal to the junction point using RF Module for an announcement at the junction and the same will be displayed on the LCD placed on the junction. Green light will glow towards that particular route and red light towards other routes and the traffic police will get notified by that particular announcement and signal lights. This will help in reducing traffic congestion at that particular point,” he said.
Malik added that a congestion control system is designed in order to solve these problems—
