18 Shopian Sqay association players shine in South Asian, Tri-Nation championship

The 18 players of the Shopian Sqay Association have brought laurels by winning medals in South Asian Sqay Championship and Tri-National International Championship.


As per the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), 18 players from the association have won medals in two championships, 14 gold and four silver medals.

The 7th South Asian Sqay Championship and tri-nation international 2023 that was held at Nepal kathmandu and all the players of District Shopian once again showed their potential by winning medals with flying Colours, a member of Sqay Association Shopian said.

In 7th South Sqay Asian championship, Khatija Tul kubra, Shahzadi Lariba, Tawqeer Ashraf, Shahzaib Shakeel, Junaid Shafi and Faizan Ayoub Khan have won gold medals under different categories and Faizan Gulzar and Durdana Yousuf won silver medal in the championship.

In Tri-National international championship 2023, Tahneet Mushtaq, Anish Zahoor, Zaid Bin Hassan, Mohd Huzaif, Shafeeq Ah Malik, Owais Mushtaq, Danish Aijaz and Haamid Rashid have won gold while Umer Masood and Khansa Bashir have won silver medals.

Ehsan ul Haq Bodha, a senior member of the association while talking to the KNO said that there is no sports infrastructure in J&K due to which they have to beg before different government departments to organize training programs so that youth can compete at different stages.

He said that after getting permission from the Chief Education Officer and Principals of different Schools, training sessions are being organised.

"We have started clubs in different villages as well so as to train youth of the district," he said. "If there will be proper infrastructure in the district, our youth are so talented that nobody can compete with them."

He on behalf of the association requested concerned authorities to enhance sports infrastructure so that youth can get training and get opportunities to compete at different stages—(KNO)
