Move aimed to boost district's tourism potential; snow mobile, skating, ice-skating, musical events on place, say Officials
As the snowfall has already started in the plains of the Kashmir Valley, the authorities in northern Kashmir's frontier Kupwara district is all set to start first ever winter carnival in a move to boost region's tourism sector besides generate employment for the local people there.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the main aim of this winter carnival which will be held at Drangyari Kupwara which is the gate way of Bangus is to bring the frontier Kupwara district on the country’s tourism map by highlighting its tourist destinations, culture, cuisine and local produce.
"Special arrangements are being made to accommodate the rush of tourists and local people in the carnival which will be organized by the administration for the first time during this season," he said, adding that the event will see the participation of both the local and foreign guests.
He also said that the SnowMobile, ice-skating, trekking expeditions, musical events and other snow sports activities will be the main attraction and part of this Winter Carnival which is seen as an opportunity by the local enthusiasts to learn, engage and explore.
He also said that the local people will be given the opportunity to play as many parts as possible in this carnival and will be given the opportunity to work with administration so that they can earn employment for themselves.
The official said that the winter carnival is the first of its kind to promote tourism and to revive and preserve the culture and heritage of this frontier district. Besides, it aims at reviving, promoting and preserving the tourism in the district, unique traditional games, culture and cuisine, especially the customs of the local population—(KNO)
