Jammu all-rounder set to feature in IPL 2023, fetches Rs 2.6 crore in auction

Jammu and Kashmir's young cricketer Vivrant Sharma is all set to make his presence felt in the biggest domestic T20 league of the world Indian Premier League -after being bought by SunRisers Hyderabad.


As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Vivrant Sharma from Jammu city was bought by SunRisers Hyderabad in the players' auction on Friday for a price of INR 20.6 Crore and is will join his friends Abdul Samad and Umran Malik who will play for same franchise as they were retained.

Talking exclusively to KNO, Vivrant said that he feels happy after getting selected in IPL and will try to perform well in all three departments.

“I was interested in Cricket since my childhood and support from my family was too good as I started playing while watching my brother Vikrant Sharma," he said.

He said that since then he has played at various levels including Vijay Hazare Trophy, Ranji Trophy and other stages

“I and my family besides coaches and relatives are very happy to see me in the IPL and there is a festive environment at my home,” he said, while thanking his family, relatives and coaches including Randhir Singh and others.

Sharma further said: “If I get an opportunity in playing 11, I will try to prove my mettle and will try to perform in all 3 departments be it bowling, batting or fielding".

Since years he has been practicing in M A stadium Jammu along with Samad, Umran Malik and others and this year he played very well wherever he got opportunity and will try to continue that in the coming IPL, he said, adding "Yuvraj Singh is my ideal cricketer.

He said that his message to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir will be whatever sport they are choosing, choose it fully and dedicate themselves completely to get their dreams fulfilled.

Pertinently, Sharma is the 7th J&K player sold by an IPL franchise so far.

Before him Abdul Samad, Parvaiz Rasool, Rasikh Salam, Mohammad Mudhasir , Yudvir Singh and Manzoor Pandav were picked up by teams, however , few of them didn't get any matches to play.

Pertinently, as many as 21 cricketers from Jammu & Kashmir were included in the Indian Premier League 2023 Player Auction, which was held in Kochi today.

J&K players in the IPL 2023 auction list include Shubham Khajuria, Vivrant Sharma, Mujtaba Yousuf, Abid Mushtaq, Yudhvir Charak, Basit Bashir, Rasikh Dar, Waseem Khanday, Avinash Singh, Aman Sharma, Fazil Makaya, Ateev Saini, Shahrukh Dar, Lone Muzaffar, Auqib Dar, Asad Jamil Ahmed, Aashish Bhatt, Gourav Koul, Rajeev Singh, Mohd.
