Amid complaints, KPDCL CE says overloading leads to low voltage

Says electricity being supplied strictly as per announced schedule

The consumers of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) here have complained of pesky power cuts and low voltage, appealing to the concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest. However, the KPDCL has cited overloading as the reason behind the low voltage.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the consumers from several areas like Chattabal, Safa Kadal, Noorbagh and others claimed that KPDCL is supplying low voltage electricity to them.

They also said that the schedule announced by the corporation itself is not being adhered to, which has left them to lurch at large.

However, Chief Engineer, KPDCL, Javed Yousuf Dar told KNO that the reason behind the low voltage is overloading by the consumers. “Whenever the people resort to overloading, the low voltage to the consumers is obvious,” he said.

He also added that the demand of electricity by the consumers was low in the month of November, due to which the curtailment hours were less than the already issued curtailment schedule.

“As the demand has increased, the KPDCL is now supplying electricity as per the announced schedule only. There is no excess curtailment anywhere in the Valley,” he said—(KNO)
