Timing of garbage lifting will be changed: SMC Mayor

The health of students and teachers in GD Goenka School here in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar is at a great risk as heaps of garbage lying at the trash station outside the school is being lifted during school timing.

Parents of students enrolled in the school while talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that it has become a nuisance to reach the school as they have to pass through the spot where a heaps of garbage could be seen accumulated after being collected from different localities.

“The foul smell emanating from the garbage is affecting the health of the little schools going children as the place is very close to the educational institute,” parents said.

They added that for the past few weeks, the students are not able to reach the school on time as the process to remove the garbage from the spot is being started from 9AM to 10AM, which is school-going time. “The presence of vehicles removing the garbage in morning hours lead to frequent traffic mess, thus the students are not able to reach the school on time,” they said.

The parents as well as their wards demanded that the authorities should remove the garbage station outside the school to some other location.

Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu told KNO that he will look into the matter. “The timing of garbage lifting from the spot will be changed."—(KNO)
