Established decades ago, School sans building in Tral

The government upper primary school in Shajan area of Tral in southern Kashmir's Pulwama district has no building to accommodate its students.

Locals from the area told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that school in the area was established two decades ago, however, the school doesn't have its own building reflecting the sorry state of affairs.

They said that school was functional in a small cowshed type structure which was in dilapidated condition and later a local offered his two rooms of his house, where currently students are being taught.

Ab Rashid, a local resident, said that eight classes are being taught in two rooms and under such conditions, students are unable to concentrate there.

He said that teachers are also facing problems and managing students of four classes is not an easy thing.

For better education of our children we need to have good school infrastructure which unfortunately we don't have, complained a parent. He said in absence of infrastructure, parents are forced to send their wards to nearby schools

Locals said that people of the area are financially very weak and can't afford to admit their wards in private schools.

“We have brought this issue in notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail,” they said.

Teachers also voiced concern over the failure of the authorities to provide the new school building for the students but nothing happened, they added.

School administration had sent countless reminders and requests to the education department to resolve the problems but to no avail, they added.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that students as well as teachers and parents won't suffer anymore—(KNO)
