Construction of Gonpa in Kargil: Stakeholders pass resolution, agree for mutual solution

‘Land allotted to LBA to be solely utilised for construction of Gonpa’

A meeting to find an amicable solution to the long pending demand of construction of a Gonpa at Kargil was held on Saturday in Kargil in which all stakeholders participated and agreed upon a mutual solution.

As per the resolution passed during the meeting, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reads that today a joint meeting between Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Ladakh Gonpa Association (LGA) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) was held at Kargil to find an amicable solution to the long pending demand of construction of a Gonpa at Kargil.

The resolution reads that the meeting was culmination of two earlier meetings on the issue in which a solution acceptable to all the stakeholders could not be achieved.

“After thorough discussion on the issue it was unanimously resolved that the land allotted in favour of Ladakh Buddhist Association in terms of the J&K Govt order of 1969 would be honoured by all stakeholders and that the land in question would be utilised solely for the purpose as mentioned in that order as the land exists on this day on the ground,” it reads.

It added that it was agreed by all the parties that a land measuring two kanals (2 kanals) shall be allotted at Kurbathang through LAHDC Kargil in favour of Ladakh Buddhist Association exclusively for the construction of Gonpa at the earliest so that LBA could start construction as early as possible.

“All the parties also agreed to work together in order to maintain and promote communal harmony in Ladakh. It was also decided by both the communities to care and respect the religious sentiments of each other to set an example of universal brotherhood globally,” it reads—(KNO)
