Foundation stone of bridge laid 11 years ago yet to be completed in Anantnag

More than 11 years after its foundation was laid, a vital bridge in Kapran hamlet of south Kashmir Anantnag is awaiting completion causing immense hardships to people.

Locals from Khahdar Kapran, the last village of Dooru Shahabad constituency, told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the foundation stone for the bridge was laid during the NC-Congress government in 2011. But since then, the construction of the bridge has not started.

“Work on the bridge has not started and no bridge has been built in the village,” Sameer Ahmad, a local resident said.

He said that politicians have only made promises with them during elections to get votes and failed to fulfil them.

He said that they approached the officials many times about the construction of the bridge but nothing happened.

Locals said that in absence of a bridge no vehicle enters their village and in case of emergency, they have to carry patients on shoulder for over a kilometre.

“Whenever level of the water in the nallah increases, students of the aren't visiting schools besides that locals are unable to go for important works as they fail to cross the nallah,” they added.

They appealed to Deputy Commissioner Anantnag to issue orders to the concerned department to start work on the bridge so that the locals do not have to suffer anymore—(KNO)
