Doctors ask us to take patients to private hospital, allege attendants; doctors deny allegations
The absence of anaesthesiologist at Sub District Hospital Zainapora, Shopian on Monday triggered an anger among expecting mothers along with their attendants.
The expecting mothers while talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the authorities at the hospital in last week told them that they will go through cesarean on Monday (today), however, on Monday when they came with all preparations, they were told that the anaesthesiologist won’t be available for two days.
They said that for the past nine months, they have been coming for check-up at SDH Zainapora but at the time of delivery they are told to go to other hospitals.
“If anaesthesiologist had to go for leave, then authorities shouldn't have given us date for cesarean,” they said, adding that “if labour pain will start in anyone, then how can they go to any other hospital this time when they were treated here for nine months.”
“We came here empty stomach anything as told by doctors and even many injections were given and after all preparations we are being told that anaesthesiologist isn't available,” they said.
Attendants alleged that doctors asking them to take their patients to private hospital in Shopian in order to mint money.
“We are poor people and we can't afford private hospital at this moment and how can a doctor tell us to go anywhere else when these expecting mothers were treated by for last nine months,” they said.
Meanwhile, a senior doctor at the hospital told KNO that they had given tentative list of 5-6 for LSC at the hospital but unfortunately the mother of the only anaesthesiologist got ill due to which he couldn't join his duties today and he availed leave.
“We tried to contact District Hospital Shopian so as to get one anaesthesiologist from there today, however, we were informed that there is only one anaesthesiologist available and he is already busy there in theatre,” he said. “All patients were reviewed by our consultant gynaecologist Dr Sami and we haven't admitted anyone and there will be emergency in anyone, we will immediately shift her to District Hospital where theatre is functional and as of now it seems one patient may need referral while rest will undergo LSC on Wednesday or next week,”—(KNO)
