MeT predicts light to moderate rain in Jammu, occasional showers in Kashmir



Cloud burst hits twin villages in Kishtwar, no loss of life reported,


Srinagar, Jul 06 (KNO): The Meteorological Department Kashmir on Wednesday said that there will be respite from heat wave for the next few days as it predicted light to moderate rainfall in Jammu and occasional showers in the Kashmir Valley.

A MeT official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that light to moderate rain with isolated heavy showers is likely to occur in plains of Jammu region and occasional light rain at scattered places of Kashmir during the next 12 hours.

He said that the sky will remain partly to generally cloudy during night time.

The official added that there will be scattered to fairly widespread rain in plains of Jammu mainly during morning hours and scattered light to moderate rain in Kashmir on 8 and 9th July with (60-70% chance).

"Rain in upper catchments when combined with river, stream often generate flash flood, mudslide and landslide etc," the official said, adding that people should be cautious and stay away from fast running streams, especially during rainy period.

Meanwhile, a cloud burst occurred in twin villages of Siplotan and Kibar in Kishtwar district, however, there was no loss of life reported in the incident.

Divisional Commissioner Jammu said that a cloud burst has occurred in Siplotan area of Cherji and Kibar village in Dacchan.

He said that no loss of life has been reported, while administration was in continuous touch with the locals for providing every possible assistance—(KNO)
