Nearly 72 Vehicles were Seized by Geology and Mining Department in District Kupwara - Kashmir Latest Updates - KLU NEWS

The Geology and mining Department of District Kupwara seized nearly Seventy Two Vehicles involved in illegal mining in a single month in the Northern area of Kupwara District.

With low manpower Mining and Geology Department Kupwara, conducted its drive against the illegal mining of minerals in the district Kupwara with assistance of Police department and Irrigation and Flood control department.On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Shri Khalid Jahangir, District officer Geology Mining Kupwara Dr Shujaat Ahmad.(DMO)conducted raides on different Nallahs/streams and other spots across the district to check illegal Stone,Sand /boulders extraction and transportation.

 

During diffrent raids, the team of Geology and Mining department under the supervision of DMO Kupwara seized total Seventy two (72) vehicles (40 tippers and 25 tractors and 7 JCB) carrying bajri, sand/silt illegally from the Nallah and other agricultural locations of district and all vehicles were handed over to nearby Police Stations/Posts under different challans.He said the vehicles were seized under the Indian Constitutional act of Mines & Minerals Act 1957 and under section 21 of this act which is delegated under the Jammu and Kashmir Minor Mineral Concession, Storage, Transportation of minerals and prevention of illegal mining rules 2016 issued vide SRO 105 of 2016.during the month of May 2022 fine amounting to Rs 1056852 has realised from offenders۔ 

 
DMO kupwara appealed general public not to indulge in illegal extraction of sand and other minerals from any Nalla/stream and other agricultural spots, The illegal and unscientific mining is damaging natural ecosystem and aquatic flora and fauna.


General public should understand the long run benifits of horticulture and agricultural farming and avoid illegal cutting of green trees. Unscentific mining is also distribuing water table and promotes soil erosion.
