Pulwama, Anantnag SportsPersons demand Basic Sports Infrastructure Facility

Urge authorities to develop spaces for sports

Anantnag, May 30 (KNO): Sportspersons in south Kashmir's Anantnag and Pulwama are demanding better facilities at sports stadiums in their districts.

Several players from Anantnag said that the ground at main town Anantnag is very small and both cricket and football cannot be played at a time in the ground.

They said dozens of people playing cricket, football and volleyball are at a loss in finding a suitable ground to play their game.

They said that whenever football players play matches in the ground in Lal Chowk Anantnag, cricket players are unable to play and same is the case when cricket players play in the playgrounds and football players are not able to play their game.

“There is a need to build separate infrastructure for every game so that they don’t face any problem,” Waris Ahmad, a cricketer from Anantnag, told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

He said that sports Stadium Anantnag is small and is unable to accommodate people given the rush of players.

“ Obviously There is a  need to either keep the playgrounds reserved for cricket game or for football only. Separate infrastructure must be developed for other games,” he added.

Many have concerns that youth are indulging in drug addiction but sports can channelize and streamline the energy of the younger generation. In the face of such a situation, there is a requirement for developing spaces for sports activities.

The issue was brought in notice of higher ups several times to no avail, players said.

Similarly, players from Pulwama said that there is no turf at sports stadium Pulwama besides construction work in the basketball court is incomplete.

They also said that lights were installed at the stadium long ago but are not functional yet.

Players from both districts requested higher up to look into the matter and take immediate steps in this regard so that players can practice for their favourite games and prove their mettle at mega platforms—(KNO)
